When I first joined the bank, I quickly noticed how many internal meetings there were — and I wondered how the then-CEO managed to attend all of them. For the most part, he did.
But early on, I decided that if I tried to follow the same strategy, I wouldn’t be able to help reposition the bank for its next level of growth.
If all my energy was spent internally, I wouldn’t be focused externally — and we needed a better balance.
That’s why we have to ensure we have competent people leading meetings, making decisions, and doing their jobs well.
I still attend my fair share of internal meetings, but I trust our team to lead. Competence allows us to move forward faster.
