Yesterday I had dinner with someone preparing for retirement. He’s worked faithfully for many years, and his perspective was both steady and wise. I reminded him that everyone I’ve known who has retired goes through a process of adjustment—but each one eventually finds gratitude in the decision. Our conversation made me think about my own future. For years, I thought I’d never retire.
Now I see it’s not about stopping work—it’s about gaining the freedom to do things I feel called to, in my own time and in my own way.
