I’m grateful for serious-minded people. You get to a point where you get a lot of meeting requests, and truth be told, it can be hard to tell what people really want. But today, I had a meeting with someone who initially said, “I don’t want anything,” and well, turns out, he did. And that’s fine.
Because the conversation was solid. We talked about the St. Louis region, about our respective journeys. Funny thing, our careers started in the same place, just years apart, in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood. We had a real exchange of ideas, not just pleasantries. I appreciated that. He did make a subtle ask near the end, but I wasn’t mad at it. Sometimes the ask is worth it when the conversation is real.
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” —Colossians 4:6
