Like many of you, life feels full, business, family, personal commitments. There’s little room for mistakes or impulsive decisions, which is why I’ve consistently sought wisdom. Over the past six years in banking, I’ve prayed for wisdom, wisdom to know what to do, when to act, and when to pause. I’ve asked for signs to guide me, for the right leaders to surround me, and for the courage to release what isn’t aligned with my purpose. I’ve asked for wisdom in my family life, my finances, and my faith, because without it, I know how easy it is to lose focus or fall into shortsighted actions.
Proverbs 4:7 reminds us: “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.”
Wisdom equips us with foresight, good judgment, and the ability to make thoughtful decisions. Without it, we risk becoming stagnant or misaligned, like Kodak, a company that invented digital photography but failed to embrace it, clinging to the old ways until it was too late.
That’s a lesson I learned firsthand years ago while working in an organization facing monumental challenges. The environment was shifting, and we needed to adapt, but emotional attachment to old models made it difficult to move forward. It was wisdom that illuminated the path forward: humility to let go of what no longer served, courage to step into the unknown, and the insight to guide others through uncertainty.
Leadership isn’t static; it’s a continuous journey of growth, learning, and adaptation.
So, let me ask: Where can you embrace wisdom in your leadership today? What’s one area where you could let go of the old, embrace the new, and create opportunities for growth?
