Thirty years ago, I made a promise to myself: if God ever gave me the platform, I would use it to write, to teach, and to build in a way that honors Him and helps people become more than their circumstances.
Today, a moment I'll never forget. Meeting and sharing the vison behind The Thrivers Path™
More than 30 years ago, I made a commitment to myself that if the Lord ever gave me the platform, I would use it faithfully. I would write books. I would teach. I would try to leave behind something that could help people not only succeed but become whole. Something that could help people move from surviving to thriving.
That desire, over time, became The Thriver’s Path.
The Thriver’s Path was not created overnight. It grew out of my own life, my own journey, my own setbacks, my own healing, and my own leadership experience. It was shaped by what I have lived through, what I have learned in executive leadership, what I have taught, and what I have seen in others who are trying to become more than their circumstances. It was also informed by nearly 100 interviews with professionals and leaders, all wrestling in some way with growth, clarity, confidence, purpose, and the challenge of becoming who they were meant to be.
I built it for people who are capable of more, but who know that talent alone is not enough. You also need inner work. You need language for your story. You need discipline. You need reflection. You need the right framework to help you move forward.
At its core, The Thriver’s Path is a structured leadership and personal growth journey designed to help people move from feeling stuck to leading with greater clarity, confidence, discipline, and purpose.
That is why I am so proud to say that Washington University has signed on as our certification partner. That partnership means that those who complete The Thriver’s Path will receive a certificate connected to that effort, and that is deeply meaningful to me. It is a reminder that what begins as vision, when nurtured with faith and discipline, can grow into something others recognize as worthy and real.
John Maxwell on stage, decades of teaching leaders around the world.
This weekend also reminded me of something else: when you stay faithful to the vision, God has a way of bringing people across your path that once felt far beyond reach.
What many people do not know is that I have admired John Maxwell from afar for years. For those of you who know leadership, you know that John Maxwell has spent decades teaching, coaching, and pouring into leaders around the world. This weekend, I had the opportunity to meet him, speak with him a bit about my books and the course, and he asked me to send him a signed copy, which I am delighted to do. I look forward to whatever may come from that connection.
What I also learned is that John Maxwell has a heart for foster kids, and that touched me personally. As someone who came through foster care, my heart is now increasingly drawn to young people who are aging out of the system. So even as The Thriver’s Path is growing in its current form, I am also working on a version specifically for foster youth aging out.
That matters to me in a very deep way.
Because I know what it is to need support.
I know what it is to need vision when your life has been marked by instability. I know what it is to need someone to help you believe that your story is not over. - Orvin Kimbrough |
So, this is not just another project for me. It is personal.
Maybe you are carrying a vision that has taken longer than expected.
Maybe you are in a season where the work feels quiet, the progress feels slow, and the dream feels far away.
Maybe you have wondered whether what is in your heart is still possible.
Do not mistake delay for denial.
I believe in the power of vision.
I believe in the power of dreams.
I believe that when you set your sight high, when you dare to dream beyond what seems reasonable, and when you are willing to do the work, the Lord has a way of ordering your steps and placing the right people in your path.
I never, in a million years, thought I would be leading Midwest BankCentre seven years and four months later, surrounded by such an incredible team. I never imagined I would be in a position to build, to write, to teach, and to create in ways that allow me to honor God and remain true to who I am and who I said I would become.
And yet, here I am.
Not because the road was easy.
Not because the path was straight.
Not because every door opened on command.
But because God is faithful.
Because vision matters.
Because discipline matters.
Because relationships matter.
Because sometimes your breakthrough really is sitting on the other side of the right relationship.
So, I just want to encourage somebody today: if God has placed a vision in your heart, do not let go of it. If He has given you a dream, do not abandon it. Your breakthrough may be sitting on the other side of obedience, on the other side of endurance, and yes, on the other side of the right relationship.
Keep going.
Keep believing.
Keep building.
Keep pushing forward.
And trust that in the right time, God knows how to make vision visible.
“What vision are you still carrying that you need to keep building, even if it has taken longer than you expected?”
