Everyone can do something to lift up others.
I’ve been given many opportunities in my life that have allowed me to learn, grow, and succeed beyond expectations.
Everyone can give something — time, dollars, work, mentorship, kindness — to help someone else, and together we can lift up whole communities. With my own local community connections and support, I’ve helped establish these favorite causes.
UMSL Fund
As I moved on from United Way to honor my service the board, donors and I established the Orvin Kimbrough fund to support kids from similar challenged backgrounds.
Hand Up for Children : College Bound
After creating Hand Up for Children to help at-risk youth like I was get on the path toward a college degree, I connected with another then-fledgling local nonprofit startup, College Bound.
Rising Together Foundation
I established this foundation at Midwest BankCentre to encourage investment in small businesses, home ownership, and small dollar loans.
The St. Louis American Foundation
In 2011, I wondered why we didn’t have more initiatives to celebrate young and diverse, and particularly Black talent available. The Salute to Young Leaders was born out of that gap.
Make sure to include “Fund Orvin Kimbrough, Salute to Young Leaders” in the notes section.
ST. Louis Get On Board
I created St. Louis On Board, a thought-leadership and networking group on LinkedIn who meets once a year physically to facilitate interaction between our regional nonprofit organizations and St. Louis' top diverse executives, to match talent to board service.
