Gratitude Focus: I am Grateful For The Ability To Prioritize

Reflection/Why I’m Grateful:

Today, I have been working with great focus to complete key work products before leaving for a conference. We all know there will always be a long list of things to do. I have yet to meet a professional traveling for a conference—or for any reason that takes them away from the day-to-day—that doesn’t experience some level of stress. Next week, I have a bank board and committee meetings, then pivot at the end of the week for a National Academy of Medicine committee meeting, among other priorities. I’ve had to focus because so much of my work is tied to other leaders—I need to review and sign off on work products that impact the larger organization. I am grateful to my team, and I am grateful that I have a disciplined mind to prioritize what is important.

How do you decide what is truly important when everything feels urgent?

Question for Reflection

Hi, I’m Orvin Kimbrough, volunteer, board director, chairman, and CEO. I help professionals move from feeling stuck to being strengthened by reshaping how they think, lead, and live. My work focuses on confidence, leadership, and influence through mindset shifts, expanded networks, and bold, values-aligned action. My perspective is rooted in lived experience, from growing up in foster care to leading complex institutions as a CEO and shaped by faith, resilience, and a deep belief in human potential.
