“I can do all this through Him who gives me strength.” Philippians 4:13

Do you ever doubt your worth? Feel like you're not enough for God, People, Opportunity? Maybe you think you're too weak, an imposture or unqualified. I, too, once felt that way, afraid to step out of my comfort zone and pursue something greater. Despite my insecurities, I trusted in God's plan.

In the last five years, God pushed me even further, shining a light on my deepest fears and doubts. Math, failure, judgement, trust, leadership, deep industry knowledge - I had to confront them all. When I entered the banking industry in 2019, it was a daunting challenge. Transitioning from a familiar nonprofit sector to a new one left me feeling vulnerable and unprepared. Growing up poor and in the foster care system, I constantly battled insecurities and imposturisim  so this transition was even more difficult.

In those early months, I questioned whom to trust, unsure of who genuinely supported me and who was waiting for my failure. We all have our own doubts and fears. Like Gideon in the Bible, I felt stripped down to the bare basics, relying more on God's guidance and less on my own strength. Despite setbacks and failures, Gideon emerged victorious, and so can we. God will show you who is for you and who is against you and ensure that you are adequately equipped to rise even in the midst of failure.

Failure is not the end-all-be-all. However, not giving our all to any task, not doing it scared and not trusting fully in God can lead to defeat.

As believers in Christ, we often cite Philippians 4:13, but do we truly grasp its significance? What does it mean for us as individuals facing daily challenges?

In the NIV version of Philippians 4:13, the emphasis on "THIS" is striking. It's not just a generic statement of work; it's a specific reassurance that we can conquer anything that comes our way, THIS is whatever is in front of us. This promise should fill us with hope and confidence amidst any difficulty. This reminds that God's strength is not dependent on our own abilities or resources. Regardless of our circumstances, He empowers us with His unwavering power and provision.

Even before fully understanding faith as a boy, I witnessed God's work in my life during my darkest moments. The same is true for each of us. He is always by our side, granting us the strength to triumph over challenges. Philippians 4:13 serves as a powerful reminder of this truth.

So, the next time you encounter Philippians 4:13, remember that it's more than a cliché phrase. It's a profound promise from God. No matter what obstacles you face, He will equip you with the strength necessary to overcome them. Keep placing your trust in Him and His unwavering support. Keep doing it scared.
