The Power of Active Faith: A Sunday reflection

One of the highlights of last week was seeing the manifestation of the Refuge and Restoration Marketplace, led by Pastor's Ken and Beverly Jenkins along with other pastors and business men and women of faith. I often express my belief that the Church can play an even more powerful and practical role in society than it currently does. As people of faith, we are called to be light. People are often inspired by practical application. They are inspired, I once heard, by God's tangible presence and activity in the world.

This got me thinking about the power of seemingly small acts that are divinely connected. What if 1,000 of the over 3,000 churches in the St. Louis region decided to mobilize around one small business, one community development project, one other church divinely positioned, or something else that has the potential to transform a neighborhood? I believe this is one strategy that would reverse the decline in church membership, benefit our communities, and push our region toward greatness. It involves doing something courageous, relevant, and practical.

People in all types of communities, rural, urban, and suburban, are searching for something that is real and relevant to their current circumstances.
